Parent Information

School Hours

School begins at 8:00 a.m. If you need to drop off your child before that, the playground is supervised beginning at 7:30 a.m. Children should go right to the playground to visit with their friends and line up together when the bell rings.

Clubhouse and children taking the bus are excused at 2:45 p.m. All other children are dismissed at  2:55 p.m. If you need to pick up your child before that time, please contact the school office.

Attendance

If your child is ill and can not attend, please call the school office. If your child is tardy, he/she must stop at the office and check in with Mrs. Sharpless before coming to the classroom.

Recess / Lunch

The children have recess at 10:45 a.m. and lunch at 11:20 a.m. You are welcome to join us anytime, but please call the office so they can add you to the daily lunch count. Also, don’t forget to stop at the office to get a visitor’s badge when you come.

Uniforms

Children are expected to wear the school uniform unless specified in the school newsletter. Special days would be Picture day, Christmas program,

Spirit Day, etc.

Homework

We do have homework in first grade! Every Monday a paper will come home with “Homework Projects”. The top few are “Most Do’s” and the bottom ones are “Choices”. The children must complete a total of at least 12 of the items.

Volunteers

Parent helpers are welcome. Please let me know if you would be interested in helping.

Book Orders

About once a month, I send home the Scholastic Book Club order

Form. Look through it with your child. If there is a book or books you would like to order, fill in the order form and return it to school with a check. Please make the check payable to Scholastic Book Club.

Sharing Time

More About Me Monday – share something special about themselves.

Teach Me Tuesday – share something that they made or know how to make.

Wacky Wednesday – share a joke or riddle.

Theology Thursday – share a bible story.

Free Press Friday – share a news story.

Birthdays

We like to celebrate birthdays in our classroom. If your child would like to celebrate his/her birthday at school, please send a note the day before. This gives me time to prepare for the special day. Children with summer birthdays may choose a day during the school year. Just a reminder, if your child wants to share a treat with the class, it should be purchased from a store. Thank you.
