Welcome        Curriculum       Tips for Parents

Reading:  We use the Scott Foresman reading series which helps teach all prerequisite skills children will need for first grade.  The five critical areas that are explored are:  phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text comprehension.  Sight words and color words are introduced in each of the six units of study.  Parents are given the list of words as they are learned in the classroom.  We encourage the children to be  read to as much as possible at home during the school year.

Math:  We use the Harcourt Math series which offers a wide range of activities and strategies so that all students can experience success in mathematics.  The units of study include the following:  Sorting and Classification, Patterns, Numbers 0-10, Geometry and fractions, Numbers 10-30, Number patterns, Money and time, Measurement, Data, Graphing, and Probability, Addition, and Subtraction.  The Harcourt’s easy to use website offers family members activities as well.  Visit the website at:  www.harcourtschool.com
